Refund and Cancellation Policies

English Language Programs

All refund requests must be in writing. All charges are subject to change. Please inquire at time of withdrawal or change for current charges.

All application, testing, insurance, International Student Service Fee, and withdrawal fees are non-refundable.

Application fees are valid for one year from the original session. Students postponing attendance do not pay the application fee again within one year to apply to the same or similar program.

Students who applied through an agency or representative are subject to the agency refund policy and will receive any refund through their agency, not from UCSD.

Refunds take approximately 5-6 weeks to process.

10-week programs:
Program Change Refunds/Additional Payments
When enrolling in one of the 10-Week programs, students may change programs once according to the policies below:

1. Changes from any of the Intensive programs to the Communication & Culture program:
  a) Changes during Week 0 (test week), by 3:00pm Friday, the refund will be $200.00*
  b) After 3:00pm Friday of Week 0 (test week), there will be no refunds for program changes.
2. Changes from the Communication & Culture program to any Intensive program:
  a) Must be done by Friday of Week 2 by 3:00pm and will only be allowed on a space-available basis. Preferences will be given to pre-enrolled students.
b) Additional tuition fee of $500 will be paid at time of change.
3. There will be no program changes allowed after the 2nd week of classes.

For cancellations, the refund schedule is as follows:

First day of Week 0 (orientation/test week) through Friday by 3pm of Week 1 50% of tuition minus a $500 cancellation fee.
Week 2 and after No refunds.

 

 

 

4-week programs:
The Academic Coordinator must approve program changes. Students may change programs only once. There will be no program changes after the first week. Any difference in program price must be paid prior to transfer into the new program. If a refund is due for a program change it will be processed less a $50* processing fee.

Certificate Programs
 
Programs less than six months:

UC Medical Insurance
We are sorry, but there is no refund for medical insurance, for any reason.


Housing refunds:
Off-Campus Apartments: Pasha Corporate Housing
1. The pre-payment of $250 is non-refundable.
2. If you check out before the first class meeting, you will be refunded in full minus $300 (included in this amount is the prepayment of $250). If you check out after orientation, but before the English Language Institute office closes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday of that week, you will be refunded in full minus $400 (included in this amount is the prepayment of $250). If you check out during the first week of classes, you will be refunded in full minus $600.
3. After Friday of the first week of classes, no refund will be given if you leave Pasha Corporate Housing.

Homestay/Rent-a-Room:
1. The Homestay placement fee ($150) is non-refundable. The remaining money is refundable in full on a per night basis. Refunds are given through Foreign Student Homestay, not ucsd.
2. Students leaving the homestay program before scheduled departure date must pay a $250 cancellation fee directly to the host family.

Vantaggio Suites:
1. Cancellations not made within 3 days after the date of reservation will incur a $100 charge.
2. Students canceling their stay after check-in will forfeit the $250 security deposit.

On-Campus Apartments (summer only):
1. No refunds after move-in date.
2. The $500 housing prepayment is non-refundable
3. Cancellations made before check-in will receive a full refund minus $500.
